Kingston Public Library -- Kingston, NY

Ah, the library.  We love libraries, and when the kids were smaller, we went to three on a regular basis.  When I say regular, I mean at least once or twice a week for each one.  We've slowed that down a litte bit, but we're finding Kingston Library to be rather teen friendly with programs and options for programs for teens, which is the stage we're at now.  Not in the best of neighborhoods, but it feels like a small microcosm within the area.  Not separate, but more like a connection for everyone.

So, down to brass tacks.  The commode.

A utilitarian affair, don't be surprised when the door makes a loud shot-like noise on opening.  It's okay.  A tad spartan, but not in a bad way.  I'm always glad for old fashioned paper towels as opposed to hand dryers, but that's just me.  For the environmentally minded, if you don't know how to use just one paper towel to dry your hands, watch this Ted talk.

I have to say that I really love the hook on the door.  How often do I go into a restroom, and there is nowhere to hang my bag?  Or coat?  Who is designing these bathrooms with no hooks?

Ahh...nice.

  1. Jen, I used to work there. People would often wash there if they had no place to do so otherwise. It is a good and sacred place.

  2. Wow. It really is an amazing place that fully serves the community on so many levels. Thanks for letting me know one more way it does so, Monica!
